INDONESIA - EARTHQUAKE 7.9 - 12 SEP 2007

A powerful earthquake has shakes the western Indonesian island, Sumatra. It triggers a TSUNAMI alerts across the Indian Ocean.

Officials said, the powerful quake is measured 7.9 at Richter scale.The capital of west Sumatra has collapsed. Residents in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand also felt the quake and some buildings were evacuated, which struck at just after 6 p.m.

US geological survey says : "Today's earthquake stuck about 9 miles under the sea, and near about 100 k.m. southwest of the city of Bengkulu. Communications got damaged with the affected area.

Till now, there is no clear causality.
